A-scanned of Herbert Michel |
The accompanying picture resulted
on 27 September 2005, on the occasion of a receipt from Manfred Kohl, mayor
of the municipality Niederwalluf.
Background was " the
visit of ours; Pedder" Roy and John Michel from the USA.
How was it added? In order
to say it in front, without Internet would be diese" Familienzusammen-führung"
not possible been.
In the genealogischen mailbox
of www.rootsweb.com 1999 appeared a search announcement. Roy Michel had gone
on ancestor search. Due to of family excessive quantities he was the opinion,
its ancestor from the Elsass to America emigrated. Due to its information,
the name of its emigrated ancestors, Johann Michel and wife Josepha geb. Staab,
I came fast to the conviction that the family originated from Niederwalluf
and we have common ancestors.
My interest in a contact to
the American relationship was naturally large. A problem were however my missing
English knowledge. But for the second time I was convinced by the advantages
Internet. Under the address http://babelfish.altavista.digital.com I found/English
translation program German. Thus the communication was no more problem. Thus
I wrote Roy down, which " itself much over my information and again in
addition the come; Cousins" from old Germany was pleased. Meanwhile I
had " with another; Pedder" Contact taken up. Herbert Michels (born
in Martinsthal, meanwhile in Niederwalluf resident) ancestor list, decreases/goes
back like Roys and my ancestor list to the 1716 in MOS brook born Johann Christoph
Michel, which married 1744 in Niederwalluf and which is master father of the
Niederwallufer Michel line.
The contact with Roy and Herbert
remained existing and in the last September week 2005 came then the long expected
" Cousins" from America to visit after Niederwalluf. With Roy his
Mrs. Joyce and his brother John with wife Nancy came.
Herbert had for the visitors,
only one week a Germany remained a program been planning. Apart from the visit
of a bunch economy different objects of interest were visited. On 27 September
then mayor Kohl received us, afterwards I led the visitors by the old Niederwalluf,
by whose local picture they were very done.
Much too fast then the week
was already again by and the visit had again leaves. One however are surely,
the contact " to ours; Cousins" remains exist.

RootsWeb Review
22.04.1999
I have been
interested in my family history since I was a boy. More recently
I began asking my 88-year-old father questions, most of which he could not answer. I knew that there
were other MICHEL family members somewhere. I did some research
here in the U.S. and found some cousins
who I had not seen in years. They gave me a brief outline of
the family history that their mother had
written many years ago. In this information I found some key
data, such as the name of my great-great-grandmother's home
town in Germany and her birth date. It
also stated that my great-great-grandfather was from Alsace-Lorraine
and his birth date. I did some basic research
on the name Niederwald, Nassau and found out that the Duchy
of Nassau is now in the State of Hesse.
I subscribed to the Hesse-L list and got some wonderful advice
from the list members. Several directed me to a village called
Niederwalluf on the banks of the Rhein (Rhine)
River. I found in a German publication a declaration of emigration
for a "Johann
Michel" listed as a carpenter for the year 1852. This
record was sent to me via e-mail by one of the list members.
Several days later I received an e-mail
from Norbert Michel from Niederwalluf. It was in German, so
I had to have it translated. In the e-mail,
Norbert stated that he was working on Michel genealogy and
had come across my query. He gave me names and birth dates
that all correspond to the ancestors that
came to New Jersey in the 1850s. I don't think that this would
have been possible, at least this fast,
without RootsWeb, computers, and e-mail.

By the way, Johann Michel,

a further field convenient in the Rehbach, between Jacob Michel and Kaspar
Keppel. This field came likewise by fortune delivery 1848 into its possession.
1856 were sold this field at Ignatz Nicolai.
Peter Michel requests
1847 as a married man country in the Comal County, Texas. Of 1848 likewise
a request is present on land dispatching, to which time it however no more
than not married designated. According to the documents in the Texan dispatching
office it never received country, because it did not furnish the necessary
documents (information Roy Michel).
Afterwards each trace
loses itself
